Friends of the Musical Fountain commissioned Chris LaPorte to create a commemorative artwork to mark the 60th anniversary of the Grand Haven Musical Fountain. Chris is known for his “monumental” works, primarily pencil sketches as is seen in the work below - “Cavalry” (measuring 8 ft. by 28 ft.). His latest original work, “Grand Haven Musical Fountain - Past & Present” (measuring 4 ft. by 8 ft.), is also a pencil sketch, specifically created to capture the history of the fountain, primarily in black & white with the Musical Fountain in color.

In Chris LaPorte’s Own Words

I feel honored and excited to create public art to celebrate and commemorate the Grand Haven Musical Fountain, a historic community landmark. I’m grateful for the opportunity to artistically celebrate and support the Musical Fountain, a monumental work of art in its own right.
The Grand Haven Musical Fountain has been a summer spectacle destination for generations now.  So many people have shared their family memories of enjoying the nightly show since I began the drawing.  The Fountain itself is awesome.  And, what the Fountain does and continues to do for the community is also amazing.   Capturing the mutual experience of the community over decades is part of what I’m trying to capture with this drawing.
